More Research into Autism Wanted

Four in five people with autism will have mental health problems at some point in their lives, according to the charity Autistica.

Families of people with autism have expressed concern about a lack of research and specialism into treating mental illness.

Four out of five people with the condition will suffer from mental health problems at some point in their lives, according to the charity Autistica.

Their figures also reveal autistic adults are nine times more likely to consider suicide, while autistic children are 30 times more likely to have such thoughts.

But very little is known about the connection between autism and illnesses like depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
