Freedom Care - Person Centered CareA report conducted by the Health and Social  Information centre (HSCIC) found that two thirds of individuals with complex health needs that live in a hospital style institution were given anti-psychotic medication.  These worrying findings strengthen exactly why “person centred care” is so important for sufferers of mental health.

Person centered care, not only treats the individual as equals in the planning, development and execution of their care, but also puts the sufferer and their families at the heart of any decision making. The idea behind this type of care is to promote independence within safe environments. It allows individuals to build on their strengths and provides them with choices. It takes into account a sufferer’s beliefs and views and is tailored to their interests as an individual.

The underlying factor is “no decision about me, without me” is being reinforced by the NHS reform plans to give patients more control and choice backed by information to allow services to be more responsive to individuals’ needs and design a service around them, rather than patients having to fit into a service.

Here at Freedom Care as a specialist care services provider, this is exactly the approach we take with all our residence, encouraging them to develop their independence further. For more information on how we can help you, please contact us here.
