At Freedom Care we provide specialist care services for people with a wide range of mental health care and behavioural needs.   Our aim is to offer a homely setting which can be tailored to the needs of each individual so that they feel cared for and part of their community.   Our overall priority is to work closely with professionals and service users and their families to ensure that their time with us is as rewarding and as positive as possible, and that an open and honest culture is kept throughout.

In this blog we want to focus on the families of those with special needs.  Much attention and focus is rightly given to the individual service user to ensure that they receive person centered care and that their needs are met – but what about the families that are also so very closely involved in the process?  Who is there to support them?

At Freedom Care we understand the strain that having a family member with complex health needs can put on the rest of the family.  These families can suffer from significant stresses and burdens – over and above the normal stress of day-to day life.  They can often feel inadequately supported by  health professionals and feel like they have to fight every step of the way.  All in all, having a family member who needs ongoing mental health care can result in entire families with complex needs.

Freedom Care are only too aware of this dynamic, and want to see things change.  One of the most gratifying things about working here is the positive feedback we get from so many of our clients and their families.  One family specifically remarked on their refreshingly positive experience with us, as opposed to the previous struggles with specialist care services:  “Over the years we have learnt to hate reviews as they have been very negative, and there has been no relationship between us and the care providers. After leaving the review the other day we both left on such a high. We know our son is safe, happy, well cared for and with people who don’t treat him as an inconvenience. Also we know that when you say you will do something it gets done. We really do feel that if there are any concerns we can all talk freely and honestly to each other. This has had a big impact on our lives as well as our son’s.”.

Other testimonies on our website show just how much difference we are making not just to the service users themselves but also their families.  Here’s a brief composite of what the families are saying:

  • “Freedom Care has benefited our son and our whole family . . . . It has made a tremendous difference to his life. He’s tried the rest now he’s got the best! ”
  • “Freedom Care have done everything possible to help and support my son and our family. It’s a fantastic service which benefits everyone”
  • “We feel the personal atmosphere provided by Freedom care is what makes it an excellent service . . . ..we as a family feel our sun is rising and all of our lives are now so much brighter. After the many years of battle with the various systems in place our minds can rest at ease knowing our son is in good care.”
  • “The quality and dedication of the staff at Freedom Care is far better than anywhere else previously experienced . . . . there is always someone for us to talk to at the end of the phone to discuss matters or to bounce ideas.”
